New Labour Minister to open George CCMA Office

by Gabriel Mothiba last modified 2010-11-09 05:01

10 November 2010

Labour Minister, Nelisiwe Oliphant will officially open the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) office in George (Western Cape) on Thursday (11 November 2010).

The George office is the first in the programme of increased accessibility following a concern raised by the Portfolio Committee on Labour over a number of years about the lack of CCMA’s accessibility to citizens.

The CCMA George office has handled about 4000 cases since its establishment last year (2009). Of these cases, about 1 400 were handled between April and September this year alone.

This achievement has been hailed by the social partners (government, labour, business and the community) in the Southern Cape as the area was regarded as under serviced in relation to labour related matters.

The George office will also cover areas like Oudtshorn, Calitzdorp, Laingsburg and Beafort West.

THE MEDIA IS INVITED.
