Labour service delivery road show hits KZN

27 August 2008

Service delivery, skills development and farm employees’ workplace conditions will be topping the agenda as Labour Minister Membathisi Mdladlana embarks on a two-day visit of KwaZulu-Natal as part of his ongoing Imbizo outreach programme.

During the visit next Monday and Tuesday (Sept 1and 2) Mdladlana will lead a team of inspectors and senior officials to different parts of the province, including Kwa-Mbonambi and Richards Bay where they will inspect farms, skills development projects and the Labour Centre.

Inspections on farms will concentrate on employers’ compliance with labour legislation, including prescribed wages and occupational health and safety measures, while visits to government-funded empowerment projects will be aimed at evaluating progress on job creation and poverty alleviation.

Wrapping up the campaign will be the assessment of the Unemployment Insurance Fund’s hi-tech Processing Centres where Minister Mdladlana will also interact with claimants on any possible difficulties in accessing their payments.

The media is invited. For logistical arrangements, labour journalists can contact provincial communications official Jay Anand on 0845076743
