2 October 2018

The elimination of the worst forms of child labour will come under the spotlight during a visit to Sri Lanka by a delegation from Department of Labour to be led by iNkosi Phathekile Holomisa next week.

The visit is a sequel to an earlier one by the Sri Lankan delegation to South Africa.

According to the Department, the overall objective of the study tour is to benchmark on the best practices on the elimination of the worst forms of child labour with particular emphasises on the “cross-sectoral collaborative strategy in pilot activities at the grassroots level. The main aim is to establish pro-actives programmes for the elimination of the worst forms of child labour, understand best practices from other countries particularly on the trafficking of children for illicit work.

To have a broad understanding on Sri Lanka’s experience, success, challenges and lessons learnt on the implementation of the pilot for child free zones. To understand legislative frameworks that govern employment of child labour in Sri-Lanka with the purpose of strengthening our own legislative measure against worst forms of child labour.
