4 February 2013

The cross-examination of State witness in the trial of Doctor Tebogo Ephraim Kealetsa (37) allegedly accused of defrauding the Department of Labour’s (DoL) Compensation Fund (CF) will continue in the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crime Court on Wednesday (February 6).

Kealetsa from Pampierstad in the Northern Cape is alleged to have defrauded DoL of R680 000. He faces two counts of fraud. The general medical practitioner has pleaded not guilty. He is out on a bail of R5000.

The doctor was arrested on 25 August 2010 after making two alleged “illegal” claims against the Department of Labour’s Compensation Fund. Kealetsa is alleged to have submitted claims for patients he never treated.

The Compensation Fund is a public entity of the Department of Labour whose duty is to cover for compensation of workers injured during work or for diseases sustained or contracted thereof.
