3 September 2012

The Department of Labour’s (DoL) Employment Equity (EE) Advisory Unit is to host another  in a series of employment equity (EE) workshops on Revised Code of Good Practice on HIV/AIDS including tuberculosis (TB) and the World of Work and its Technical Assistance Guideline in the Free State and KwaZulu-Natal as the process edges towards a swansong.

The series of workshops which have been running for a month have also been used as a platform to encourage employers on successful EE Reporting.

Tomorrow (September 4) there will be two workshops that will be held simultaneously at Welkom Inn, Free State and at Golden Horse in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal. These will be followed by similar workshops on Wednesday (September 5) at Windmill Casino & Entertainment Centre in Bloemfontein, Free State and at Gooderson Leisure Hotel in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal respectively.

All workshops start from 10am-13:00.

The workshops are part of a national road-show conducted throughout the country’s major centres. They are held under the theme: “Bridging the equity gap”, and are aimed at employers, heads of companies, senior managers, human resources practitioners, trade unions, employees, Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) rating agencies and community constituencies.

The Revised Code of Good Practice on HIV/AIDS including tuberculosis and the World of Work and its Technical Assistance Guideline (TAG) was recently signed-off by Labour Minister Mildred Oliphant and gazetted.

It follows hot on the heels of last year’s Department of Labour consultation workshops with stakeholders to draw inputs from employers and various stakeholders. The Revised Code of Good Practice on HIV/AIDS including tuberculosis (TB) and the World of Work and its TAG were developed with the assistance of the International Labour Orgranisation.

The set of guidelines and policies are designed to help employers on how to deal with the human immune virus (HIV) and acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) including TB in the workplace.

·          Meanwhile, the Manual and Online reporting for EE Reporting will start on 1 September 2012.  Manual reporting closes on October 1, 2012 whilst, Online reporting closes on 15 January 2013.
