Department of Labour “Taking Services to the People”

by lloyd last modified 2018-07-16 18:12

16 July 2018

The Department in partnership with Nkomazi Local Municipality will be hosting the “Taking Department of Labour Services to the People” campaign on the 21st  July 2018 at Nkomazi Local Municipality.

The event will be preceded by a breakfast session to be held on the 20th July 2018 at Pestana Kruger Lodge, Malelane with Departmental stakeholders. It is positioned to create an engagement on how organisations/companies can work hand in hand with the department on employment creation, supporting and promoting creation of small businesses and co-operatives in order to develop and empower the community.

The objective of the event is to ensure that the Department assists companies to develop turn around strategies to increase productivity levels, absorb more workers, and pay better salaries. It will assist companies facing possible closures and lower employment levels and intervene through short term training lay-off measures in companies faced with retrenchments. The event will assist new entrants and retrenched workers with career information, counselling and placement, assist with Unemployment Insurance claims, provide information on labour legislations, and assist those injured or suffered occupational diseases through rehabilitation and re-integration into employment.

The Department of Labour has a vision to strive for a labour market which is conducive to investment, economic growth, employment creation and decent work. It is therefore mandated to play a significant role in reducing unemployment, poverty and inequality through a set of policies and programmes developed in consultation with social partners, which are aimed at improved economic efficiency and productivity, employment creation through its Public and Employment Services Unit, promoting sound labour relations, eliminating inequality and discrimination in the workplace through Inspections, compliance monitoring and Enforcement, alleviating poverty and providing social and income protection through Unemployment Insurance Fund.

The “Taking Department of Labour Services to the People” campaign will involve other government departments, educational institutions, Wholesale and Retail Sector, Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETAs), and financial institutions rendering their services on the spot to the people of Nkomazi Local Municipality.
