8 June 2011

Three medical practitioners accused of defrauding the Department of Labour’s Compensation Fund had their case today (June 08) postponed by the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crime Court to July 12.

When the trial resumes the three accused: Maxwell Ramaphosa, Samuel Mfeleng and Jurry Sehunoe are expected to plead. The three accused are out on a bail of R3000 each. They face 22 counts of fraud involving more than R3,8-million and 28 counts of money laundering amounting to more than R860 000.

Two other accused Kabelo Senne and Joseph Mashilo had  charges against them withdrawn for lack of evidence.

The Compensation Fund is an entity of the Department of Labour to cover for compensation of workers due to occupational injuries or diseases sustained or contracted by employees in the course of their employment. The fund also covers for death resulting from such injuries or diseases, and related matters during occupation.
