Blitz inspections to assess Agricultural sector compliance level in the ZF Mgcawu District

The Department of Labour in the Northern Cape will be embarking on a series of blitz inspections from 03–07 December 2018 targeting all sectors with  the main focus in Agricultural sector across the ZF Mgcawu District, targeting employers in the Keimoes, Kenhardt, Kakamas, Louisvale and Augrabies areas.

“The objective of these blitz inspection is to tackle all sectors but a special focus will be on the Agricultural sector. We strive to render an effective and efficient inspection and enforcement service by providing guidance, assistance to our clients and by conducting inspections in relation to legislative requirements pertaining to the Employment Standards, Employment Equity (EE) Act, Sectoral Determination 13: Farm Workers Sector, Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA), Unemployment Insurance Act as well as the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Regulations,” said Ivan Vass (Provincial Chief Inspector).

The blitz inspections will be tackled by various groups of inspectors with specialised skills in areas covering Employment Standards, Occupational Health and Safety and Employer Audit Services. This team of Specialists and Principal inspectors will assist to ensure 100% compliance and understanding of the Legislation and necessary Regulations across all sectors with special focus on Agricultural sector.

The inspections will be accompanied by Advocacy sessions and distribution of pamphlets to educate, share information and raise awareness on labour legislations with employers and employees across all sectors in the ZF Mgcawu district.
