Employment and Labour embarks on a service delivery campaign in Ndlambe Local Municipality- Eastern Cape
14 November 2023

The Department of Employment and Labour, in partnership with Ndlambe Local Municipality in the Eastern Cape, has embarked on a service delivery campaign aimed at bringing services closer to the people. The campaign began on 13 and will continue until 17 November 2023.

The main objective of the campaign is to resolve client enquiries and complaints on the spot whilst assisting employers to comply with labour legislation.

Services to be provided include registration of workseekers on the Employment System of South Africa (ESSA) database where they will be best matched with registered employers for available opportunities in the labour market free of charge. The Department will also assist with resolving Unemployment Insurance Fund and Occupational Injuries and Diseases claims and inquiries, processing applications, claims assessment and providing Inspection and Enforcement Services.

An advocacy session will be hosted for employers, commercial business owners, as well as SMMEs which will be addressing challenges experienced by businesses in the various sectors and to further impart knowledge on key labour programmes and services. Furthermore, the seminar aims to encourage interaction between the Department of Employment and Labour and business owners and employers as key stakeholders regarding their obligations towards the most vulnerable i.e. employees.

Departments, Sector Education and Training Authorities, and educational institutions have been invited to offer their services on the day of the main event.

The Department has also been conducting blitz inspections since 23 October in Ndlambe Local Municipality, these inspections continue until 16 November 2023 focusing on Agriculture, Hospitality, Wholesale and Retail and Construction Sectors to ensure compliance with labour legislation by employers in the area.

Clients are advised to bring the following documents related to the service required;
